Objective

The implementation of a biodiversity action plan in the largest quarry rock of Jehander:

Context

Jehander is the first company to establish a biodiversity action plan for operating gravel and rock quarries. In the company’s’ largest rock quarry at Kallered, directly to the south of Gothenburg, peregrine falcons now have a proper nesting ledge that has been set-up for them to live.

Actions

The rehabilitation of the adjacent Sag lake including the removal of reeds.

Inventorying and monitoring of the biodiversity of the area.

The installation of a bird restaurant, hollows for bats, insect habitats, wintering boxes and a butterfly garden.

Analysis and measurement of the information gathered.

Result

The presence of Peregrine Falcons to roost.

Increase in species population along the quarry area specially during the winter and summer periods.

The adaptation of the quarry to create better conditions of life for plants and animals, specially insects and birds.
