Supply of Essential Raw Materials

The Critical Raw Materials Act tabled in 2023 intending to improve access to a small list of raw materials is another proof that the European Commission recognises that land use planning and permitting in Europe do not meet the proposed purposes, forcing the creation of accelerated procedures. However, by leaving most of the raw materials out of the scope, the Commission decides that the latter continue to suffer from a deficient procedure.

Aggregates are essential raw materials needed for the whole built environment of our society. Without the annually demanded aggregates of 3 billion tonnes in Europe, our known world would fall apart. Aggregates Europe – UEPG undertakes campaigns to raise attention of EU and national policy makers to avoid that supply is taken for granted.
