Aurora restoration process applied a fluvial – geomorphic approach completed with an ecological approach for handling topsoil, vegetation and fauna. The restoration has been carried out in the framework of the European LIFE ECORESTCLAY project. Careful monitoring of this type of restoration demonstrates that the restoration is a clear success, reestablishing the hydrological connectivity, and maximising the visual and ecological blending with the surroundings. The Aurora quarry restoration has already received important recognitions in Spain and in Europe by the European Commission as a Geomorphic Restoration among a series of Best Available Techniques for the Management of Waste of the Extractive Industries.
