Montesson, France

Objective

Increase the ecological potential of an intermediate area between towns in the suburb of Paris.

Context

The pond called « étang de l’épinoche », results from the exploitation of the sand quarry. It is located in a highly urbanised area, 7 kilometres away from Paris, in the West side. The pond is integrated into the departmental park of the Montesson area which is managed by the Regional Council of the Yvelines.

Solution

The site redevelopment consisted of managing a large awash reed bed that stretches over more than 1 hectare in the Northern East of the water zone.

Result

This sort of humid environment enabled the reproduction of rare species of birds in the region of Ile de France, for example the “Blongios nain” and the “Rousserole turdoïde”. The ornithological quality of the site justified its introduction in the inventory of Natural Areas of high quality of environment, fauna and flora.
