Case Study

Tarmac Iberia S.A.U.

San Martín de la Vega, Spain

Objective

The company has chosen for restoration the options of focusing on biodiversity and agricultural uses, which was the predominant use in the region at the time of the project planning.

Two areas have been distinguished: the perimeter slopes and the central platform.

Context

The fact that operations and restoration of the area were simultaneous has allowed to keep a minimum surface of land impacted, and has allowed to increase the effectiveness of the restoration process.

Solution

During the restoration stages, many corrective measures have been applied, in order to minimize environmental impacts.

Result

The restored lands are under agricultural cultivation, on parallel with the site operation.

On every surrounding slope, special habitats for bird were created, leaving some steeply pick slope for nesting.

The project is finalised and the site is now closed, the biodiversity values are still good or even better.
