Holcim Spain
Objective
Due to the environmental situation of the site at the time the company bought the exploitation, the company has to make a big effort, with a progressive restoration, in parallel with the works of the exploitation, to bridge the gap.
Context
The characteristics of the area to restore and the tree species planted there, made necessary a careful work of preparation, planting and subsequent cares, most of them manually.
Solution
Implanting the ISO 14001 environmental management system, setting up water deposits and a drip irrigation system, both necessary to correct in some way the lack of water. It was necessary to protect the system against herbivore and rodent.
Result
The scene restoration mixed up with the planting of trees to minimize the visual impact, and to regenerate the forest for its subsequent uses (agricultural use, recreational use or for the harvest of carob beans).
In the same way, the native arboreal stratum, formed by brooms, oleasters, carob tress and pines, was respected; in the perimeter, new habitats for local fauna were created and already colonized.
The project is finalised and the site is now closed, the biodiversity values still good or even better.
