Potential impact on water or groundwater

In a quarry, cleaning and maintenance operations for lorries and mobile equipment are very common.

The water used for those purposes could be polluted with oil, fuel, etc. and this could lead to a soil and groundwater contamination.

Description of the good practice

To avoid this problem, the company has built a lorry and machinery washer and water recovery device. A filtering system for water cleaning has been installed, consisting in a pond and a laminar separator for oil, hydrocarbons and particles over 200 microns. The efficiency of the separator is 97- 98%.

The area has been prepared for maintenance works with a concrete layer.
