Case Study

Lafarge Granulats Sud

Gahard, France

Objective

Since 1998, Lafarge has developed, in partnership with the local environment association Bretagne Vivante, a monitoring and preservation plan for the DROSERA rotundifolia carnivorous plant.

Context

The sand quarry of Gahard is located in Bretagne. Pliocene sand is extracted for the concrete industry.

The Drosera rotundifolia carnivorous was identified during a census on former extraction areas.

Solution

Implementation of regular monitoring visits;
Redaction of annual reports;
Maintenance work;
Rehabilitation works in order to encourage the development of the Drosera plant.

Result

Planning activities enabled the protection of the first identified areas of development, as well as the development of new areas.

The land will then be given to the local authorities and a natural reserve will be created, managed by the Bretagne Vivante association.

Partners

Bretagne Vivante, local environment association.
