Wykeham quarry has been operational since the early 1980’s has recently gained planning permission for an additional 20 years of sand and gravel extraction. The site has been progressively restored over this time to create a variety of land uses for nature conservation, leisure and recreation. Three individually restored lakes offer both trout and coarse fishing and are managed by the Dawnay Estate.
A water sports centre based within the quarry boundary offers professional instruction and the use of the water for dinghy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and open water swimming. As the quarry extraction continues additional areas of water will be made available for the Centre to use.
Natural retreats, a self-catering holiday company, have planning permission to develop 40 timber eco holiday lodges around the restored Causeway lake to the west of the quarry. http://www.naturalretreats.com.
