Improving and developing the cooperation with the neighborhood has been Destia’s goal in the Pitkäkallio area for several years. The company wants to improve the locals’ understanding of the area’s operations through active reporting. The company organised school visits of the site to show them that it is being run safely and the surrounding region is being taken into consideration. Over the course of the day, children learned about matters related to aggregates’ operations, noise and environmental issues and traffic safety. As a result a WhatsApp group for the area’s residents was created to give information and make announcements on things like periods of activity and explosions. Close cooperation with the locals helps dissipate prejudices and promote approval.
