Surface water circulation was a problem for extraction when raining periods. The free circulation in site roads and tracks was a risk of water contamination by solid particles.

Description of the good practice

Surface water collection system and irrigation pond (1.000.000 m3) construction. The pond collects by gravity not only surface water from the site and surroundings, but also from Guadalquivir river water floods.

Description of the positive effects on water/groundwater

  • Better agricultural uses after restoration;
  • Minimisation of erosive processes;
  • Natural surface water recovery.
