Objective

To create a water ponds network to provide shelter to the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia).

Context

For civil engineering requirements, GDFC develops the by-products resulting from former coal mines. Until 1960, these raw materials (essentially made of coal schists) were stockpiled in slag heaps on a wet plain.

Solution

The site rehabilitation is designed to restore the original specificity of the environment: its wetness. Some areas are dug slightly deeper in order to establish a water pools network.

Result

A water pool of a surface of 16 ares shows already an important variety of wet plants of great interest, with in particular the presence of a large population of round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia, carnivorous plant under national protection).

Partners

A first ecological inventory was conducted by the Conservatoire Régional des Espaces naturels de Franche-comté (régional natural environment conservatory). The conservatory will continue to guide GDFC for future site rehabilitations.
