Riedler Kies und Bau
Objective
To create, maintain and preserve valuable habitats for endangered plants and animal species in extraction sites.
Context
The project aim is the establishment of an overall concept for landscape development in the region surrounding Amstetten and the neighbouring communities south along the river Ybbs, which are strongly influenced by gravel extraction.
Actions
Riedler Kies und Bau acts as the speaker of the gravel companies and therefore plays a major role in terms of the project success.
Surveys were conducted and the documentation of the nature conservation potential of the Forstheide area, the development of a suitable approach, and the formulation of tangible development objectives took place.
The creation of nesting areas for sand martins and amphibian spawning waters, support for gravel-breeders, creation of recultivation areas, care of extensive grassland, setting of nature forest reserves, etc.
The future implementation of amphibian waters, plus the support for gravel-breeders and the creation of recultivation areas.
Results
Successful coordination of the different stakeholders of the project in order to protect the different species of the Amstteten and river Ybbs surroundings.
Partners
Municipalities, authorities (district authority, Province of Lower Austria), significant gravel companies (Wopfinger Transportbeton, Hinterholzer GmbH, Danner GmbH), local nature conservation associations, and the citizens' initiative Forstheide.
