Objective

To make durable the reproduction of the Peregrine Falcon on an active quarry.

Context

The Anteuil quarry gives good conditions for sustaining this emblematic, rare and threatened species.

As a matter of fact, since about 10 years, one of the working faces of the Anteuil quarry offer the shelter for a couple of Peregrine Falcon. However in 2006, the extraction area was getting closer to its nesting place.

Solution

To move its shelter toward an area further away from the quarry activity:

1st experience: Setting up of a nest box on a rock face and on trees near the forest border. Partner: Association Groupe spéléologique de Clerval (technical help on climbing);

2nd experience: Digging in the rock face to create a place similar to natural conditions.

Result

Failure for the 1st experience: the falcon stayed in its former shelter.

Success for the 2nd experience: nesting on the new area with 3 young birds on the first year.
