Case Study

Holcim Granulats France

Belleville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France

Objective

To preserve specific plants of alluvial plains of Lorrain and under regional protection.

Context

The meadow sweet (Filipendula ulmaria), the lesser meadow-rue (Thalictrum minus) and the small scabious (Scabiosa pratensis) were all three presents on the area impacted by the future extraction site of Belleville.

It was imperative to find a solution to conciliate the species protection and the activity of the site.

Solution

To delineate accurately the area of protected species, then to move them with their associated soil and finally to embed the patch on the foster area located off the future extraction site. (The job was supervised by a transplanting state authorization).

Result

The protected species habitats are recreated in an area preserved of all extraction activity.

The follow-up of the plants recovery is still in progress. Nevertheless the project result is satisfactory, even if the recovery success does not affect each head of plant.
