Objective
To restore its sand and gravel extraction sites to woodland, landscaped lakes and heathland.
Context
CWT members have been involved in conservation work on the site since 1993 and they have undertaken extensive ecological survey work in association with EWT.
Actions
The designment of the site restoration proposals and their April 2006 ‘Arrangement Map’ and ‘Compartment Plan’ form part of the approved Restoration and Aftercare Scheme and area enclosed.
Result
The site now include a boardwalk, permissive footpaths, sluices to control water levels, wood coppicing and bat and dormouse boxes.
The development of the site as an education resource including school visits, pond dipping, the provision of wheel-chair accessible board walks and the challenge of forming the attitudes of young people to the stewardship of land and landscape.
