Cantera “Casa El Duende”, Hondón de las Nieves, Spain

Objective

To restore the quarry thanks to the results of a previous research on the most suitable flora for the site.

Context

The quarry site “Casa El Duende” was in good shape which made easier the restoration.

Solution

The restoration project “Green Goblin” was based on the results of a research on the most suitable substrate for a permanent restoration: natural substrates and residual mud from EDAR.

The findings for the most appropriate vegetal species to develop with the substrate were bushes and native trees species.

For the study and monitoring of the cultivation, a greenhouse-laboratory was installed.

Result

The project was realized with the participation of the University Miguel Hernández from Elche. The collaboration agreement with the University was made with the technical control of the work. A student was hired from the University for this control. The project is finalised and the site is now closed, the biodiversity values are still good or even better.
